Starting out with humble roots and just two members of staff at their back street office, Bromley based Parent Supermarket have expanded beyond all recognition to become not only one of the leading providers of pushchairs, prams and car seats but a firm set to rival the likes of ‘Mothercare’ and ‘Toys R Us’ for their share in the market. To this end, journalist Tina Clough went to visit the team to find out where it all began. 

 

With family at the heart of their ethos, the Kent based firm employ a loyal team of staff who all live in the local area, making sure that they spend less time commuting to and from work and more time doing the things that matter.

 

Damion Queva from Parent Supermarket who also specialise in baby toys and baby safety items, said, “We set up our business in Bromley partly down to the wealth of resources here and because there is a steady stream of highly educated people for us to employ.  It would be great to see more firms set up shop in the area as we have done.  For us, finding the right area to begin trading was certainly a contributing factor to our success.”

 

Set up by partners Chris Gasken and Damion Queva in December 2007, the duo purchased a 1000 square foot office space and worked their way up from there.

 

Mr Queva added, “Although we set the business up towards the back end of 2007, the website was not launched until April 2008.  Our big break came within a couple of weeks when we started to get some orders through without any promotional material being released.  It was then that we realised that our website was the reason behind this, as it is extremely detailed and offers honest advice on each of our products and their safety.”

 

Today Parent Supermarket are a national brand with extremely high hopes for the future.  Overtaken by orders and deliveries on a daily basis it is not uncommon to see members of staff completely swamped by the sheer amount of boxes arriving or to be amazed by the large articulated lorry’s struggling to reverse down the small street where their office is based!

 

Mr Queva, from the firm who seek out products to make parenting even easier, added, “The future is extremely bright for Parent Supermarket and we hope to not only expand our current nursery range in the not to distant future but to forge new and fruitful business relationships with many high street retailers.  We have extremely high aspirations of rivalling the industries big brands including Mothercare and Toys R us with our cutting edge and innovative products.”

How much do you charge for delivery?
  • Delivery is FREE if you spend over £100
  • £4.95 for orders under £100
  • £15 if your delivery is to the Scottish Highlands or Ireland
 

Do you deliver overseas?

Yes, shipping to Europe will be charged according to the shipping zone. The following shipping zones and charges apply per parcel:
Zone 1 £25
Zone 2 £30
Zone 3 £35
Zone 4 £40
Zone 5 £45

Zone 1 countries are:
Belgium, France (Inc Monaco), Germany, Luxembourg, Netherlands.

Zone 2 countries are:
Austria, Denmark, Switzerland.

Zone 3 countries are:
Czech Republic, Italy, Slovakia, Spain.

Zone 4 countries are:
Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Sweden.

Zone 5 countries are:
Bulgaria, Greece (inc Islands), Latvia, Lithuania, Romania.

If you are using this service and your order consists of more than 1 parcel, please call our customer services team on 0845 0517575 in advance to establish the cost as there may be discounts for multiple parcels. We will do our upmost to ensure that we obtain the best possible price for you from the carrier.

We do not currently ship to countries other than Europe.

Do I have to be there to sign for delivery?
In all instances, you will be required to provide a signature when your order is delivered. If you are not in when we try to deliver your goods, we will leave a card notifying you of the time we attempted delivery. We will also provide contact details so that you can arrange delivery to an alternate location if preferred. Please note: Our Home Delivery Network service will only accommodate requests from customers who have been carded, where the redirection is to a residential address and within the Depot catchment area.
 
Can I track my order?
Yes, we offer an online order tracking facility. You will be sent an e-mail acknowledging receipt of your order, shortly after placing it. Please reply to this email requesting your tracking number and our staff will be happy to help! Will you deliver to an alternative address? Yes, we offer an address book facility so that you can have your goods delivered wherever is most convenient for you. You can either access your address book by logging into My Account, or you can add or choose an alternate address at checkout. Can you tell me what time of day? Unfortunately we are unable to give you an exact time for delivery. Please note: Whilst we make every effort to deliver goods on the day we specify, we cannot guarantee delivery on that day or accept liability for deliveries made outside of this time-scale. This also applies to products sent direct from our manufacturers. We cannot accept liability for out of pocket expenses or other costs incurred due to failed or delayed deliveries. All items are subject to stock availability. If we cannot supply goods in our advised time-scale we will continue to deliver and inform you of any delay.
 
Refund policy
We hope you will be pleased with your purchase. Should you wish to return anything bought from us, we will be happy to refund or exchange a product provided it is in fully resaleable condition. There will be 10% return fee, which covers restocking. Returns should be made within a reasonable time (10 days) and in original, undamaged packaging.* Please see below for exceptions to this policy. If the product returned is not in fully resaleable condition or the packaging is damaged, we reserve the right to refuse a refund on the item, or deduct up to 20% of the original selling price from the refund amount. This does not affect your statutory rights.
 
Cancellations
To cancel a confirmed order we must receive it in writing and this must be agreed and confirmed by email from a member of staff here.
 
Delivery charges
We will refund your original delivery charge when a product is faulty or damaged, but not when a product is simply unwanted. *None of the above conditions affect your statutory rights when goods are faulty, or not as described. Your rights of cancellation are covered under the Consumer Protection Distance Selling Regulations.
 
Damaged Goods
If goods arrived damage you must inform us within 48 hours of Delivery.
