Absolutely love it, never seen another like it. The only slight negative was that I didn't realise it had to be fixed to wall/stairs with screws, didn't think it made that very clear. Delivery was very fast, couldn't fault it at all, ordered one day, item ...

FITTING TYPE – PRESSURE FIT

This is a pressure fit gate with an easy close ‘slam shut’ door feature.

OPENING SIZE
The Kylian fits openings from 77.5 – 85.5cm. With one additional extension it will fit up to 93.5cm and with two additional extensions will fit up to 101.5cm. Extensions are available separately.

OPERATION
The door section is opened, by pulling the sliding, thumb release and lifting the door. The door is closed, by pushing it firmly shut until it clicks into place. The door can be locked to open in one direction only or in both directions if required. There is a simple indicator on top of the handle to show when one direction is locked and in which direction the gate can be opened.

MATERIAL
The Kylian is constructed from beechwood and rubberwood from a renewable source. It is natural wood with no chemical finishes, varnish or lacquer. It has a strong polycarbonate centre door section with a stylish, decorative design.

INSTALLING THE GATE
The gate is fitted by placing it in the opening required and screwing the four spindles in each corner of the gate outwards to press against the wall or doorframe. The top spindles need to be tightened into the opening with sufficient pressure to bring the frame of the gate and the door section close together. This will then allow the door section to open and close correctly.

KEY FEATURES
Fits openings from 77.5 – 85.5cm (up to 101.5cm with extensions)
Pressure Fit
Easy close ‘slam shut’ door

Parentsupermarket.com Top tips for buying the RIGHT Safety Gate;

Choosing baby safety gates for your home at first glance seems pretty simple and straightforward. Just pick a gate and set it up. The truth is, there's more to it than that. Actually, if you pick the wrong type of gate for your needs you could be making things even more dangerous in your home. Here's what to look for in a baby safety gate and how to choose the one that is perfect for your particular needs.

Where Will You Use The Baby Gate?

Before buying any type of baby gate, take a moment to figure out where you will be needing to use the gate. For example, will it simply be used between doorways in bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, etc.? Or will you be using the gate at the top of the stairs to block your toddler from going down the steps? The answers you come up with will determine which style of safety gate to look for, so don't overlook this step.

Stair gates features to consider

A wooden or metal gate which is side-opening will need quite a bit of room to swing open into, so you need to think about whether this will cause any obstructions, or be awkward to navigate around.

Stair gates at the top of the stairs should open towards you, not towards the flight of stairs, as you could fall forwards whilst opening the gate.

How easy is the gate to open and close? You don’t want your toddler to be able to flick the mechanism open with ease, but at the same time, you may also need to be able to open and close the gate with a wriggling child under one arm.

Consider the space which you are covering – a particularly wide opening will limit the options available to you.

Types of safety gate

Pressure fit stair gates

A PRESSURE FIT STAIR GATE SHOULD NOT BE USED AT THE TOP OF THE STAIRS.

Pressure fit stair gates sits within a fixed 'u' shaped frame frame which is held in place by pressure at four points. Extensions are often available if your doorway or stairway is wider than average.

They can be made of wood or metal. If the pressure is insufficient, then wall cups can be used to increase the security of the fixing.

Pros

There's no need to drill or screw these to the wall, so they are easier to install and won't leave holes behind
Additional features on pressure-fitted gates can include alarms to signal that they haven't been shut, or auto-closing mechanisms.

Cons

The frame can be a trip hazard as the 'u' shaped frame means a rail runs along your floor. For this reason, they should not be used at the top of the stairs.

Screw fit stair gates

These are fixed to the wall with metal screws and can be made of wood or metal. You need to measure up carefully before buying your gate as you may need to buy extensions.

Pros

Very strong, sturdy fitting
There's no rail at the bottom, so no trip hazard. It is recommended that screw fit gates are used for the top of the stairs.

Cons

They do involve some DIY and will leave holes behind once they are removed.

Mesh safety roller gates

Made of heavy duty mesh, these work in a similar way to a roller blind so can be retracted when not in use. They need to be screwed into the wall.

Pros

There's no frame to trip over
Discreet when retracted
Can be good for wide openings.

Cons

They can be tricky to install
Can be as much as twice the price of wood or metal gates.

Travel safety gates

These are made of mesh, don't sit in a frame and completely come away from the wall when you release the pressure. They act as barriers rather than gates.

Pros

They can be useful for travel as they fold up and are light to transport.

Cons

Not the best option for daily use, as they have to be put up and down every time you go through them.
